I think this, along with the ravens, might be an association with the prophet Elijah in I Kings 17:1-6. Here the LORD used ravens to bring food to His servant during a famine. Early Crockers might have taken God Feeds Them as a motto because they felt that, like Elijah, God provided for their needs.
